restaurants
San+Sebastian, 2018
The Misura restaurant is located in a privileged area of San Sebastian, next to the Miramón forest and some meters away from the Technology Park and the Basque Culinary Center. It is part of the Senso Group, a brand that includes a hotel, student dorms, a cafeteria, convention rooms, cooking classrooms and a spa-gym, where all these uses share common values based on sustainability and passion for nature.
The concept of this restaurant is based on the idea of eating organic, local and seasonal products in the kitchen. Having this in mind, the restaurant is reached through a double space with views towards the kitchen. An artistic installation is made using different types of stones turns the wall portion of the stainless steel furniture modules into an attractive background.
The layout of tables is placed perpendicular to the show kitchen to enhance the relation between the kitchen and the diner. By doing this, the work tables inside the kitchen become high tables to eat when crossing the raw steel window frame that encloses the kitchen. Both the arrangement of stones in different colors and the lighting with hanging raw steel lampshades highlight the relation between these two.
To adapt to the different uses of the space throughout the day some spaces have been adjusted and some zoning areas have been generated. A volume, finished in timber slats and wood floors, encloses a private dining area that can be divided into two spaces following the needs of the servings. The main dining room has a microcement flooring and a portion is framed with an embedded wooden rug and low partition forming an L-shape wooden finish to protect diners from the elevator area.
Regarding furniture, some materials such as: dark woods, upholstery in gray tone fabrics, raw steel and the same set of stones of the show kitchen, are used here. Both indoor and outdoor furniture is mixed to provide a visual continuity to the space with the large terrace integrated in the Miramón forest.
