Valladolid, 2013

Wabi Sabi is a Japanese tavern in the center of Valladolid. It was created with the hope of mixing the tradition of bars in Valladolid with Japanese cuisine.

This new poject, by Javier and Antonio González García (Los Zagales de la Abadía) and Mariola Lopez, was born in a shop located in the center of Valladolid, where there was already an existing restaurant with a strong minimalist design that did not fit  with the desired concept.

So to turn this existing space into a typical Japanese tavern, we started from the basis of maximizing a diverse experience with references to the Japanese culture.

The restaurant is divided into two floors, where it visually connects the access floor level with the basement level below through a double space and a large central staircase. The functional program fits with this distribution by creating a Japanese tapas bar on the entrance, visible from the street, while reserving the existing basement for a more comfortable tasting menu.
