Corella Sant Cugat
stores
Barcelona, 2013

This project was designed with the hope of creating a warm space that can give back the idea of a traditional butcher shop, where quality,

process transparency, and visibility of the preparations are prerequisites.

This is the second shop of the Corella Family. It is centrally located in an old store in Sant Cugat, where the architecture of vaults, beams, and beam fills of ceramic brick, along with masonry walls, play an important role.  Hence, all these preexisting architectural elements were painted in an off-white tone to unify them and take their protagonism, and allowing a better exposure and highlighting the product being sold.

The challenge was to provide transparency and visibility to the shop as both a design and company philosophy approach. To achieve this concept, the back of house and the sales area are both visually connected by a double hung iron frame window . The work area also connects to the exterior by placing it close to the façade. Customers from the street side can watch  and learn the natural process and traditional methods applied in the meat preparation, a technique that has been lost over the years.
