Mijas+M%C3%A1laga+, 2023

We were commissioned to design a restaurant inspired in the Andalusian culture and heritage.

Our concept is a fusion that revolves around the tradition found in the towns of the region, the culture of the bars, and the aesthetics of equestrian art.

We followed the tradition of whitewashing the walls with lime mortar, using the technique applied in the houses of the villages, and we added mosaics with arabesque shapes in the same color as those found in the typical bars of the region, but using a single color to update the design.

We designed some lights made of esparto grass that were originally used to cover the eyes of the horses.

The space has tall ceilings and reclaimed wooden trusses, like in the old stables, and a large central bar finished in white marble and dark wood, that allows all the gastronomic life to happen around it. It is a space full of brushstrokes and references to crafts, where we placed typical  natural fiber chairs that are commonly used in the towns, and large mirrors with the menu hand painted, just like it was done in the past.
