Sant+Cugat, 2023
Sandra Tarruella Interioristas were commissioned to design a new concept of grocery shop, located in Sant Cugat Shopping Center, Barcelona.
Our well-known client, Corella, decided to pay homage to ”La Fonda Mas” and ”Carns Corella”, putting on the table the most traditional artisan cuisine, and of the highest quality, which in turn only uses products of proximity and that shares the value of a ”job well done”.
Based on all this, the project concept seeks to enhance these values and attributes.
As everyone knows that home-cooked food tastes better, the aesthetics of the place intended to emulate this space, an interpretation of some old stoves with scents and aromas typical of Assumpta’s kitchen, the cook from ”La Fonda Mas”.
Thus, on the ceilings we decided to place American walnut beams, off-white micro cement walls and stone floorings, with the idea of capturing the essence of the kitchens found on typical Catalan farmhouses.
Counters were simplified and finished with American walnut wood planks to place bowls and clay pots in which to place dishes or food. In between, there are some cubes finished with orange Portuguese tiles where the cashiers were placed.
The complimentary furniture is inspired by old cutting tables finished with white marble tabletops on which to prepare and pack the meats for customers. Above them, some suspended black raw steel swings with pots and oil cans, serve as support for the staff and allow to frame the work areas of the space.
Shelves were placed on the walls as cupboards, in this case again made of American walnut wood and white marble, to display the fresh produce and the jars with food that are for sale.
On the rear side, as a backdrop, the workshop was placed. It is separated from the rest of the premises by a transparent glass and a black raw steel window frame, which transmits the idea of “what is prepared here, is sold here”. It portrays a relationship between the interior and exterior, as well as transmitting the understanding that the product has freshness and quality.
Regarding lighting, spotlights were placed between beams to illuminate specific elements of the project and on the counters, we provided a touch of quality with black metal lamps from the Santa & Cole brand.
