stores
Girona, 2022
Sandra Tarruella Interioristas studio has designed a new candy shop for the Roca brothers. It is a store that will sell all the new sweets that have been created over the years, and that have evolved exponentially since they opened their first Rocambolesc ice cream parlor, located in the adjacent premises of the same building, on calle Santa Clara de Girona.
One of the things that we wanted to enhance was to understand the candy shop as part and continuation of the business model that began in 2012 with the first ice cream parlor. For this reason, we have repeated the curved shapes and the window frame color of the façade, and we have also installed new awnings on the new store and on the adjacent ice cream shop which, in a very simple way, helps customers relate the two stores when seen from all the street perspectives. The exterior design unifies both shops, yet the change of color on the inside, and the way of displaying the products provides each one its own character, and allows to easily identify them from one another.
For the new candy shop we have created a unique world, more in line with the product, allowing a versatile space, where all kinds of containers are used in very different sizes, shapes and colors, where every product can evolve and grow independently. Hence, the aesthetics had to reflect this diversity; a world of color and irreverent shapes, with fun sweets to display Jordi Roca’s edible nose or the “mona” (chocolate figures) during Easter time. From small product the size of a hazelnut to triangular packaging shapes… anything capable of being created by these unstoppable creative people has to be able to be displayed in the candy shop.
Since we had a very small space (25 Sqm), we left exposed the vaulted ceiling to make the space feel bigger. The product display has been located on the front wall, which serves as a showcase and enables customers to walk through the space along the perimeter walls, and continue towards the central space where there is a large central micro mortar table that serves as both: a cashier’s desk and a tasting spot to try one of their sweets.
We have worked with a chromatic range in red, pink and light tones, and complementing them with green and yellow tones to provide light. We also resolved the shelf by using basic geometric shapes, lines and circles, so that it could house boxes with products, voids, or empty ones, and be able to place them in different positions depending on the implementation of the product; and allowing to place the product inside or on the upper part, by using half spheres to place graphics to show a product in promotion, or traditional shelves when a product doesn’t fit in the cubicles’ space. This front wall is complemented by a built-in cabinet that has curves and lines, and where shelves can be moved as needed. The two window displays are made up of glazing shelves supported directly on the window frame and a low cabinet that serves as both: a window display, and as product storage.
The entire atmosphere is created in a chromatic range that includes ceilings, walls and the continuous flooring that frames some hydraulic floor tiles designed by the studio in the shape of an area rug, and where a central furniture piece – made in micro mortar – is placed.
