Aioli is located on the third floor of a building called “Haas House” of “Heus Holein” on a square named “Stephan Plaz” in Vienna.
The difficulty of the project was to solve the semicircular plan of the space that is surrounded by a central core containing the vertical communication of the building. We resolved this, by placing some parchment partitions having warm light, and arranged in fan-like manner where they overlapped one another, as well as helping define the different ambiences.
In this is space there are different zones: an area that sells ready-to-eat meals, a place selling cheeses, a deli, breads, packaged goods, oils, dried tomatoes, pastas, wines, … a selling point offering fresh flowers, and the restaurant itself.
The materials used are oil treated iroko wood on the furniture, and regarding the wood flooring, it is interrupted with large white concrete segments, in a carpet manner, that have embedded pebbles forming schematic drawings.
The light control was another key point, since the natural light coming through the window, throughout most of the year, is cold and gray. Hence, we decided to cover the window partly with a curtain made of twisted natural fibers made in Seville, and is in balance with the parchment partitions and the brightness on the tabletops.
The Linen tablecloths, the glazed earthenware dishes with typical colors from Bisbal and the basketry helped evoke the Mediterranean soul, with the colors the of sun, olives and the sea.
